When Kyle’s first tooth fell out Mitch and I were at the Annenberg Space for Photography, (we just happened to be THERE- so when I missed an important event in our children lives I can console myself by saying I was somewhere doing something I am passionate about…) When we got home I wanted to put the tooth under his pillow for the tooth fairy. Emily (who was watching them) had put it in a safe place so we could have it upon our return. It was so safe, that America’s Most Wanted could be hiding right next to it, never to be seen again.
So. I knew that when his second tooth would fall out, I would probably miss that too, just one of those things- and …a few days ago, I came to pickup Kyle from school and the teacher hands me a Ziploc bag, with “kyle’s lost tooth, July 22nd ’09″ and told me the story of how Kyle noticed his tooth was gone while they were outside playing in the biggest playground you’ve ever seen in a preschool, (it looks enormous to me, I am sure it’s GIGANTIC(!) to them), and he was sad that he lost it…
Anyway. 16 kids in Kyle’s camp grade went roaming around the yard looking for the tiniest tooth in the world, literally like looking for a needle in a hay stack, and like winning the lottery, I mean seriously, WHAT ARE THE ODDS?
Apparently, in Kyle’s favor…one little girl found it, it looked like just any other pebble in the ground, but it wasn’t. It was Kyle’s tooth, his second baby tooth, and this time we had it.
And I don’t know what the going rate for a tooth is these days ( our tooth fairy left him $2) but seeing the look on his face when he found the money and the note- PRICELESS.
