Having a Baby

SO Monique is one of those women who others are jealous of, if she gained ANY weight at all, it is  entirely BABY, not a gram of FAT, and still, the cutest she can be! She’s about to pop any moment and yet, there were angles where you could barely see the belly, I know, you think I’m crazy, but believe me.

Anyway, Monique is ready to go,

and  I can’t wait to see that precious little bundle see the light of day  (so I can take some more pictures of course!)

Leonie - I love what you do too, your photos, your blog, your joy.

Tanner’s 13, it’s official!

So Saturday night was HOT!!!! It just had this feeling…Tanner was excited and ready to become a man! A 13 year old man, that can’t drink, drive or…but at 13 you can still be a Mench, and that he is, and I know he’s learning to become a great man one day.

Tanner, your Bar-Mitzva was FUN, your service was beautiful, touching, heartfelt and FUNNY!

Lisa, Michael and everyone- thank you for trusting me with this important day, congratulations on YOU KNOW WHAT!

With love. Shani

The event was held at Los Robles Greens on a beautiful not too hot afternoon ( I have to point the weather out because it could have been very very hot…) and the super lively entertainment provided by H2H with Sean as the MC, they got the kids and GROWN UPS dancing all night !!! (except for table 6, and they know it!)

jane - great picture, you are really so talented

It’s all in the jeans. (Barney’s New York, in DownTown LA)

Dressing my girl to school everyday used to be a big deal, or should I say a big problem. She wanted to wear only boys’ clothes (which wasn’t a problem because she has a slightly older brother) or no clothes at all (which is sort of a problem), picking her outfit  would take most of the morning and would ususally end with both of us crying and her looking like she picked her own clothes (which she obviously did) and made for some interesting combination. She’s now much older (4yrs…) and loves dresses, which is SUPER easy turns out, because I just have to match the socks, and even that I don’t always get to do.

When I was a little girl I only wanted to wear jeans, like a cowgirl. 30  odd some years later, well, not much has changed, still my clothing of choice.

One of my favorite pairs is fitted, yet stretchy, dark, yet looks used, and oh, comfortable yet makes me feel S, ah, never mind.

. And I got them at Barney’s New York. On sale.

There’s a Warehouse sale at Barneys going on right no (read the review at LA times online) and go to their site Barney’s for the exact details.

The Ugly Truth- A movie to watch

I had a girls’ night out this Tuesday, meaning tonight, or last night as it is way beyond midnight and I can’t fall asleep – We had dinner and a movie, (a perfect date) and we saw…The Ugly Truth. I spent half of the time on the floor laughing. Have I mentioned it was funny?

I’m not exactly sure what the purpose of this post is, besides the fact that whether you’re single or married, looking or found, a man or  a woman, this movie will remind you what it’s all about, and what it’s not, and how hard we work to be who we think we want to be, and who we think we think THEY want us to be…a funny funny look at who we are.

(Warning- it has foul language so its not for the prude heart-ed and have a I mentioned it’s funny?)

It really got me thinking, and I remembered back to long long ago, before I was even single, before I even knew what being single was, before I was 12…when I was in 4th grade or 5th grade – we used to have parties at home, on Friday nights, with light adult supervision, food, an activity (usually a quiz game with prizes) and then, DANCING!!! When I think about those parties, I have a few vague memories, and two vivid ones, memories that are more pictures than actual memories, because they are pictures that have turned into memories – I’m not even sure who the boys in the photos are; but when I think about my childhood, in the the or 5th grade, these are the memories that I come up with. from these photos.

Jackie and Ricardo – Getting Married!

Gotta love the internet!!! Jackie and Ricardo met online, yes, there’s people out there who do that!

But photos and weddings happen in the real world, and it was great getting away for a sunset shoot, at the beach nor less, and taking pictures; almost an ideal pastime (sipping ice coffees would have made it perfect -Next Time!!!)

Jackie is the most calm bride ever, planning her own wedding as casual as can be – it might be because she’s having two more weddings in 2 more spots around the world.

Jackie and Ricardo: Will you take me with you?

The photos I picked are supposed to convey a 50′s feel – I hope it worked…

End of Summer | dont smile now - just kidding photography seriously - Shani Barel - [...] the end of August, and I have not been at the beach enough, really, not enough. Starbucks #3 Jenie

Growing up, the name Shani, (My name…) wasn’t that well known, people hearing it for the first time needed to ask me again, sometimes twice, till they understood it. AAAH, SH-A-N-I, what a beautiful name… but by then I was probably so embarrassed, blushing and wanting to run away, I didn’t enjoy the beauty in it, and wanted a regular name like Michelle, or Laura, or Jenie? (which can also, apparently be spelled in Oh so many ways…) so I know they’re not using these cups right now, so you know this one’s form way back…but hey. I was Jenie for a moment there and I loved it.

Erin and Shouvik Hindu wedding

I was honored to be part of Erin and Shouvik’s Hindu Ceremony, and comfortable…we all had to leave our shoes at the door of the temple, and what can  say, once you take your shoes off, you naturally become more at ease, and the ceremony was amazing- about 2 hours long, mostly in Sanskrit (I think…?)
with many rituals that each had a meaning that bonded the couple together, there was fire, smoke, water, flowers, grains, sound, and beauty all over.

The getting ready part was fascinating, colorful and photogenic all around – Thanks Erin and Shouvik for trusting me with one of your best memories.
