Stripe Heaven

Every so often my friend Heather, hand Zoe down some clothes…this is great, not only because of the savings (Reduce, recycle reuse…saving the EARTH here people…) it just solves my styling ( or lack of)  for Zoe.. She just gets a bunch of tops, and only wears the ones she likes…I am so jeans and t-shirt kind of gal myself,  so the bag of clothes usually offers her a variety she may not have gotten with my purchases…Yesterday were lucky enough to receive a loot pack – Zoe was so excited, almost as much as I was – and she laid out all the different clothes in the categories, and even put a couple of outfits together to see how they matched…and at the bottom of the bag, was this glitterlicious, striped dress with beautiful detail in the shoulders…and she picked striped leggings and her striped socks and finished the look with her silver slippers… she looked SO adorable this morning… and then she decided to cover it all with a belly long sleeved orange shirt…I did everything in my power to remain silent, swallow silently and relish in her pure satisfaction with the girl who reflected back at her in the mirror . I asked her – do you like what you see, and with a huge smile she smiled her toothless smile (is that tooth EVER coming in?) and said “yes” she was horrified at the thought that she might have to change into the school-wear as it turned out they moved Spirit Day to Thursday instead of tomorrow – and since I didn’t know about it, (even though Kyle swore it was true) I told her that she was fine with what she’s wearing and that she’d have her jacket on anyway so on one would no wether she was, or was not, wearing her Spirit Day shirt underneath or not… and so we walked to school, a mom, a boy and the happiest “feeling like  a million bucks” girl. When I picked her up from school I thought the outfit was not completely ruined by the orange top, and that she somehow pulled it off…and that maybe I could learn something from her about dressing outside the box…but when we got home I asked to get some photos of her, WITH and WITHOUT the sweater… I posted on FB the two options…if you’re curious… I promise, I let her, and she did, put back the other top, and completely supported her in her choice and I HOPE she didn’t hear me when I muttered, (and I sound SO OBNOXIOUS TO MYSELF.. ” I like it better without but I also like it with…”

But the most important part of this story, is that I got an image I love – I just love this photo of Zoe, as it is a complete representation of myself, who I am and the style I like to portray – and of course, my spirit just lifts with all these STRIPES!!!!

Obsessed

Or a tale of a girl with a dream…it’s all how you look at it. That girl is not me, that’s not my story, yet – ok, maybe I am following, but I have not caught up yet. The story is about a girl named Jasmine Star, and she tells her story best. I am shamefully, a little obsessed with following her. I am embarrassed of it, as I had never really been an active fan of anyone…and before facebook I never “clicked on a fan button”. And the only thing I really ever liked before was Snoopy. I first heard about Jasmine Star and her rise to fame a couple of years back, and she was already famous in the wedding industry world as a break out success…a super nice, friendly, witty, funny and beautiful young woman, daring to leave one dream behind to follow a bigger dream, and telling her story along the way. Since then she has shared not just her  personal experiences, (the good, the bad and the fugly) but all of her business experiences, and I mean ALL of it, she has held back nothing…and every so often (and it’s often) when I check back to  her blog, I find something new that truly helps me in my own business. The hard part has been following her main preach which is “be yourself”…which is hard to do after viewing other photographer’s blogs namely, Jasmine’s (yes, going first name basis…) and then, not comparing, not being jealous, not getting winded by all that I still want and need or should do,  and still remembering who I am,  my strengths and successes instead of my shortcomings. So  as much as I resent being so Star – Struck… I ended up pay-paling (because paypal money is play money right?) my way to ordering Exposed….which really, even without paypal,  is affordable.

Today, only a couple of days after, I received this envelope..and in a true J*  fashion (no pun intended, AND yes, we’re going logo basis now…) I snapped a moment of anticipation. It is night now, and I was out for our PUG christmas party, and Jasmine still resides in her plastic wrap like a new barbie doll – I want to take her out and play, but I also want to keep her int he box, and I also am afraid of what I will find – am I secure enough in myself to read this vast magazine as inspiration? because seriously, how DOES she do that?

As I prepare for the end of the year, I have already cleared my drawers – the physical drawers, as I prepare for the mental de-cluttering of my brain…This year, for real, I am getting things together – and I am using every tool within my power – and one of them, is being obsessed, and being a girl with a dream, a fulfilled dream.

Knoll 2011 The Next Generation of Dessers

knoll furnitureI know it’s Christmas when we gear up for our knoll shoot – we’ve been shooting it for 5 years now and it’s still as fun as it was the first time…Using classic furniture from the knoll collection – and daring to do thing on it we’re not allowed to do any other day of the year, raises the levels of fun (the pricier the piece the higher the fun-risk factor, and it goes HIGH..- between $1500 and 15000) so we tried to have everyone take their shoes off…

This year I was smart and I had my kids attend at the END of the day…so I could really let the loose and not worry about other kids waiting (“who let those kids ahead in line?” or “mommy – can you put the camera down and come with me to see the cookies I decorated” sounds were totally avoided..and I even got to get into some family shots (not shown today) .

so as we announce the official start of the Holiday season – I wish you all a Joyful, Healthy, Prosperous Season and year! (and life time of Happiness while we’re at it! )

If you attended the event and wanted to see the rest of the photos – you can follow this link: more knoll

No Worries Event Planning – The 2nd annual round (square) Table

This week I got to go out on a real grown up night, with girls, girlfriends, colleagues….and it was an extra special night organized by Dee of, of course…No Worries Event Planning and we carpooled  downtown to the new restaurant – Magnolia … did I say downtown? We had a nice long drive and chatted about work, life and kids. Ok, mostly kids…. But once we got there it was all business – with some AMAZING women – such as Carly of Flour (a floral design studio, who brought some flowers to liven our table (and I got to take them home with me, and to my dismay- 4 days later they still look fantastic!  And the lovely Kimberly, of The Butter End Cakery a beautiful lady with an inspiriting story who makes jaw dropping cakes, that also taste heavenly…she sent me home with chocolate truffles that I still dream about before bed! Across from her sat the brilliant Allyson of bob gail who shared the development of their family owned business over 35 years, and unofficially invited to tour their facilities! I might take her on the offer – I hear they have a huge prop house! Another yummy treat my husband got to enjoy was by Daniella – of The Venetian Table – (website coming soon) Traditional Italian Deserts… you can ONLY imagine! Danielle’s sister in law is the beautiful “Paris Bride ” Alisse Thatcher – (She was the bride who thad Dee plan her Paris wedding, and took her with her!) made all her paper goods for her opulent wedding and decided to add that to her fashion design resume and established her paper goods company Thatcher Studio, and last – a veteran from last year’s gathering, the original Molly of Plurabelle Calligraphy…..last but not least was Dee’s assistant and Indian wedding expert – Omrana – so if you have a need for an Indian wedding expert, let Dee know!

That pretty much sums a girls’ (work) night out… networking, the FUN way!

Hard Rock

Last week I was on vacation. I didn’t GO on vacation, but I was on one… or whatever it is we want to call it – I was a way at a photography conference, which to me is like being on vacation – it was in San Diego, a lovely city, with a beach, restaurants, many tourist attractions, but all I really cared about was the photography conference…to me,  it was just like being at “art camp” for two days, there were lectures, conversations, meals, presentation, partying, and just talking photography … seriously geeky, and all the way fun! And besides, a chance to get a way , AWAY, for a couple of days – thanks to my husband, kid-sitter, sister in law and friend…it does take a village to get away from the village!  So of course I had to do this –  my bed at the Hard Rock Hotel, like I have done over the years

On the last day, before heading home, I had the opportunity to  participate in a workshop lead by Sara France, an awesome San Diego wedding photographer – we went to a local pizzeria for a demonstration… we were about 15 photographers, and even though Sara France recommended we  watch and listen and not shoot while she taught, no one could resisted shooting the cute couple who modeled for us( who also HAPPENS to be a cute photographer couple…Tracy Moore)  Even I couldn’t resist, even though I always feel weird when 15 other photographers are shooting the SAME thing… This is what I got….
