I can still remember when I was a kid, very long ago, we had a record player; what is that you ask? it’s like a cd player, but bigger and doesn’t have flashy buttons, wait, some might not know what a cd player is, so, it’s a like an ipod, only a million times bigger, and you have to change a round vinyl flat thing, called a record…and we used to listen to it a lot…one of our favorite records was Alvin and the Chipmunks, and honestly, the only thing I really remember from it, (it was a looooong time ago), is a conversation Alvin had with David, that we, in our family quote till this day; and that had shaped me to be who I am today, and in an odd way sums up my philosophy of life, and how I view the world – and it goes like this:
Alvin: “I want to go to Spain and see the Colosseum!”
David: ” but the Colosseum is in Rome…”
Alvin: “Oh, REALLY? When did they move it?”
SO…watching Alvin and the Chipmunks, the movie (!!!) took me back to my old room, sitting in the corner , taking out the record from it’s cover, wiping it, putting it on the player and very carefully laying down the needle waiting for those magic sounds to come out of the speakers… I enjoyed the movie and laughed and cried in all the right places.
Back in the day, I truly received huge life lessons from those three little fellas – and my kids, what did they take away from this movie?
Toaster Waffles! That’s what they learned. Toaster Waffles.
Kyle and Zoe: “We want you to buy Toaster Waffles”
Mommy: “But I make real Belgian Waffles every Thursday”
Kyle and Zoe: “We don’t like home made fresh, natural, whole wheat, healthy Waffles”
Mommy: “Oh really, When did they move it?”
I confess- store bought Toaster waffles are just not that photogenic.
